School Health Awards

The School Health Awards (SHA), to be held annually, is designed as a simple wellness programme for all schools in Singapore. Students and teachers work together in teams to audit their school and submit results accompanied by supporting documents that showcase their wellness efforts.

Through SHA, students engage or participate in various wellness programmes and/or activities to raise awareness about wellness issues within their school and/or to external communities and organisations. They gain a better understanding of wellness topics such as
  • sex and relationships education
  • smoking
  • drugs
  • bullying,
  • safeguarding
  • confidentiality
  • diet
  • physical activity
  • stress
  • inclusion
  • behavior and rewards

and are encouraged to take on greater ownership of their health and the wellbeing of society.

SWA will conduct site visits at random in order to verify submissions from the schools. SWA will also follow up with a copy of the school’s submission and provide possible areas of improvement to the school at the end of each annual run of the programme.

Based on the results, schools can qualify for one of four award levels. Preschools are also eligible to participate.

The SWA aims to obtain at least 100 submissions in the first year including preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, junior colleges, international schools, schools for students with special needs and institutes of higher learning.

Eventually the SWA will encourage students to self-initiate projects that will raise awareness on wellness issues and causes in their respective communities.
